It all begins here......
Jennnie and Solomon Gorovitz, Moe, Curly,
& Shemp's
parents. They had a two other sons as
well, but we'll
get into that later. From what I have
read, these
two were second cousins. I read in my
book, that
Moe credited their zany antics to this fact.
Yes,
their name was actually Gorovitz.... they
were
from Lithuania, and moved from there because
of the arrival of Russian troops. (They were
Jewish.)
They came to the USA for freedom and a new
start,
and ended up with the name Horwitz, because
of an
error in their papers. They moved to
a poorer part
of Brooklyn, and the mailbox had their "new"
name on it, and the rest is history.
Jennie became a successful real estate agent,
even
with having the hardship of not speaking English
very well. Solomon worked part time,
but was often
unemployed. He was very religious.
They lived
frugally and had 5 sons.
Their sons names are as follows:
#1 Irving (born 1891:went into insurance business)
#2 Benjamin (also went into insurance business)
#3 Samuel (AKA Shemp because Mom couldn't
pronounce his name)
#4 Moses (AKA Moe born in 1897)
#5 Jerome (AKA BABE AKA CURLY born in 1903)
Moe in the front aged 3 years, with Jack,
Irving, and Shemp .... "Babe" of course...
absent from the picture.

obviously some time has passed.

I found this picture interesting...

Moe ... looking stylish.
Moe again. From my readings, I have
gathered that Moe
had the "acting bug" early on, and had showbiz
in his blood.
He was very intelligent, and got good grades,
but just had
a problem with school "attendance".
He decided his
talents lay in other areas, and he was right!
I really don't have the time right now ...
(or space on this site)to go into much more
details,
but will provide you with more pictures, and
some comments.
